Stourport Broad Locks and River Severn
The school uses narrowboat Enigma moored in Stourport Basin, Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire.

The town originated as a canal port at the junction of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Staffs and Worcs) with the River Severn, and near the mouth of the River Stour. The canal opened during the period 1771 to 1776 having been designed and built by James Brindley. It was part of his ambitious scheme to link the growing industrial towns of the Midlands and the North with the ports of Hull, Liverpool, Bristol and London.
Stourport Narrow Locks From River Severn
Stourport Basin itself is large. Exit from the basin into the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal is via a narrow lock. Within a day's travel you will pass through several narrow locks, some cut into sandstone cliffs of the area, through the carpet making town of Kidderminster with its imposing canal side church, then continue along what must be one of the most twisty and attractive wooded canals. Several villages and a tunnel will lead to a comfortable canal side hostelry.
Stourport Basin

Leaving the basin for the river there are two ways, either through four staircase locks or two broad locks. The river is much wider than the canal, the locks are larger and operated electrically by lock keepers. A day's travel down the river could take you through the city of Worcester with its junction with the Birmingham and Worcester Canal. Then on down through the riverside town of Upton upon Severn and on to Tewkesbury where the River Avon meets the Severn.
